Daybreak

A morning meditation

As day breaks
a thick blanket of fog
settles upon the neighborhood
obscuring even Mr. Smokes —
his greyish-brown fur blends
with grey wood beams and light grey cement —
only his blue eyes and quiet meow
alert me to his presence
