Our gratitude was family

Thanksgiving wasn’t about
a grateful, patriotic heart
or thanking Founding Fathers
who stole land from natives
thieving us this country and land

We thanked Dad for his labors
for providing us food and drink
a shelter we called Home
and clothing upon our backs
Dad was our hero, our provider

We thanked Mom for her cooking
for having little but providing much
for ensuring each meal was healthy
and delicious, though sparse
Mom was our hero, our strength

And we thanked the Divine
for keeping us together
affording Dad good health
and Mom strong arms to hold us
and giving all of us grateful hearts
