Sometimes it’s the little things that spark a gratitude moment for me.

Like a thunderstorm that knocks out the power so I can unplug from the world and sleep for a spell.

And waking up in the middle of that sleep to Shugs McGroo curled up on my side, sleeping too.

Or how Maddy has finally learned the nuance of silence, no longer desperate to bang about the house in a drunken, self-medicated fit and affording me that long, well-needed late-afternoon-into-evening nap.

And how waiting for me, upon waking, is a big bowl of spiraled zucchini with vegan meatballs and a rich marinara sauce, just a quick heat-up in the oven away from being devoured.

Yes, it is these little, unexpected things that make my life rich beyond measure and fill my heart with gratitude.
